Summer Theater

Vermont features many remarkable theaters that present everything under the sun...

with performances all summer and into fall; drawing on talented professionals and amateurs from Vermont and throughout the Northeast.

At the elegant Weston Playhouse, theater and cabaret has been going on since the mid-1800s, and you can dine before the show and walk one of Vermont's finest commons. Other intimate playhouses in Hyde Park, Stowe, and Dorset both entertain and captivate with their beautiful village settings.

Professional troupes in Montpelier and Burlington bring a wide variety of performing arts to enthusiastic audiences. The restored Flynn Center in Burlington and the Paramount Theater in Rutland draw a steady stream of national and international acts to their stunning art deco venues. Elsewhere, opera houses in Barre, Randolph, and White River host year-round performances from local and national talent.

in Derby Line you can watch a show in Vermont while the actors are in Canada.

Like each performance, the performance spaces in Vermont are unique. The historic Dorset Playhouse has been in continuous use since its construction in 1929. The original Playhouse structure is composed of two pre-Revolutionary barns moved to the present site from Dorset West Road. Each summer, this amazing venue plays host to the award-winning Dorset Theater Festival.

But Vermont's most intriguing theater resides in Derby Line. Thanks to an error during construction, the beautiful Haskell Opera House straddles the international border between Vermont and Quebec. As a result, the actors and singers perform in Quebec in Canada while the audience watches from Vermont in the United States.

You can find performances at these and other venues in Vermont by visiting the Events section of the Vermont Travel Planner or by following the links below.
