Your Sweetest Stop

The "sweetest story ever told" is what you'll find with a visit to the New England Maple Museum, located on Route 7 in Pittsford.

Home of the most comprehensive collection of maple artifacts in existence, the New England Maple Museum has provided visitors with an education of one of Vermont's most important industries.

Because of its ideal climate for growing sugar maple trees, Vermont is the country's largest producer of maple syrup, producing 460,000 gallons of syrup with an estimated value of more than $13 million.

Maple sugaring and the production of syrup have been a Vermont tradition since it was invented by Native Americans.

At the museum, more than 100 feet of murals painstakingly created by artist Grace Brigham depict the history of maple sugaring along with information and displays of the industry's evolving technology, a collection of maple artifacts, and of course, live demonstrations. What better way to experience the joy that Vermonters know as one of the first harbingers of spring than to see maple syrup actually being produced?

Other maple products such as maple candy, maple cream, and maple butter are also produced at the museum.

This lesson in history, technology, economics, culture, and nature is one not to be missed in a trip to Vermont.
