MONTPELIER, Vt. –What an incredible year this has been for foliage in Vermont. Warm temperatures stayed with us throughout September and well into October. Around Columbus Day Weekend, the foliage color change accelerated and that pace continued throughout most of the season, giving us a spectacular array of bright reds, yellows and oranges across the state.
Pockets of late season color can still be found in lower elevations throughout the state, especially near Lake Champlain and in the lower portions of the Lake Champlain Basin, and also along the Connecticut River along the eastern side of Vermont.
During the fall season, there were many fun celebrations for everyone to enjoy, including apple festivals, chicken pie suppers and craft fairs, in addition to all of the normal attractions for which Vermont is famous. People enjoyed great meals at our restaurants and comfortable surroundings in our hotels, inns and B&Bs. The landscape was beautiful, and as people made their way around Vermont on their favorite foliage routes, they were again reminded what a beautiful, unspoiled and special place Vermont is.
It's not too early to begin planning for next year and this section of our Web site has several tools for planning a Vermont Fall Foliage tour including:
As always, thanks for visiting and for your interest in Vermont. We’ll see you back here in mid-September 2008 to do it all over again!
